In December when I decided to do the study abroad program, I tried to get my mom to commit to coming over to visit me in Italy. She said she’d love to, but wasn’t sure if it would work out.
However, after the events of the past month, my mom decided that she really couldn’t be away from me for that long and finally booked a plane ticket for the third week of my trip. On Thursday, along with her escort, the lovely Bob, she arrived in Florence. It was so wonderful to see her on my apartment doorstep—I can’t even tell you.
The beauty of study abroad trips is that they’ve already been planned. You don’t have to worry about planning side excursions, booking trains or looking up the ferry schedule. It’s already been done. However, a consequence of this is that I don’t always pay total attention to what we’re doing next. So this week I was delightfully surprised at the wonderful weekend I spent in Sorrento and Capri.
